Maker Space Class Descriptions

General Information about Classes:

  • Class sizes are limited, sign up early!
  • Classes are for 14 years old and up. Younger youth can attend when accompanied by an adult. We enjoy teaching youth and some classes are designed for youth. Special classes can be designed for specific groups. Contact one of the instructors for more information.
  • A liability waiver is required for everyone, parents must sign for youth under 18 years.
  • Contact the instructor for more information or to register for a class.
  • Fees are due on the first session of the class.

Lathe Class Beginner

This is a three session class. You will learn how to operate a wood lathe and use cutting tools. In each session  you will make one of the three projects to take home. In the first session you will make a spindle. In the second session you will learn to make a wooden pen. In the last session you will make a segmented bowl. All tools and materials are provided for each of your projects.

Cutting Board

This is a two session class that will teach you how to make a hard wood cutting board. The first evening you will learn what woods to use to make a cutting board, how to rough cut wood blanks and glue the blanks into cutting board. This is a great first wood working class to learn basic wood working skills.

3D CAD - Basics

Have you heard of CAD? This class will teach you the basics of 3D CAD. Learn how to use AutoDesk Fusion 360 to create 3D objects that can be turned into physical parts. This class will get you started on your 3D CAD journey. This class requires two sessions. Prerequisites: A laptop that can run Fusion 360. Don't worry if you don't have one as we have laptops you can use. An account with AutoDesk and Fusion 360 installed. 3D Printing - Intermediate Class

Take your next step with 3D printers. Learn about slicing software and how to take a 3D model and prepare it for printing. Prerequisites: A laptop that can run Cura 5.1. Don't worry if you don't have one as we have laptops you can use.

From Digital to Physical

Have you ever wanted to create something from nothing? If so this classs is for you! In this multi-session class you will learn how to create a 3D model in Fusion 360, then 'slice' it in Cura 5.1 and finally print it on a FDM printer. Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of Fusion 360 and Cura is helpful. Please check out our 3D CAD and 3D printing Intermediate classes. A laptop that can run Fusion 360. Don't worry if you don't have one as we have laptops you can use. An account with AutoDesk and Fusion 360 installed. Beginners CNC Router Class

You will learn how to setup and run the SainSmart 3018 Pro CNC router. You will also learn the basics of the design software called Easel.  Prerequisites: Laptop computer with Wi-Fi capablilites. Set up an Easel Account (it's free) at https://www.inventables.com/technologies/easel After taking this class you will be able to take a CNC router home for 1 month to use in your spare time.

Creating Cartoons - Basic

You will learn the basics of creating cartoons of both people and animals. To include the creation of your very own characters. Prerequisites: A sharp pencil, a pad of paper and a vivid imagination. Anyone 15 and under must have a parent present. After taking this class you will have the option of taking the intermediate cartooning class.

Creating Cartoons - Intermediate

In this class we will be going over linework and color as we continue to refine the cartoons made from the basic course. Prerequisites: having completed the basic cartooning course or presenting a small portfolio of a few drawings. A pencil, a pad of paper and as always a vivid imagination.

Using 3D Modeling Programs - Basic

We will go over the running and use of various 3D modeling programs such as Zbrush to create constructs to export for 3D printing. Prerequisites: Preferably a laptop with the free version of Zbrush installed, but one can be provided if needed.
